Annual celebrations of this magnitude tend to ebb and flow, some years garnering more press, fanfare, or activism than others. Last year, Pride Week celebrated the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage across the U.S. This year, The March / Pride Parade that began in the wake of riots against homophobic police practices in 1969 will commemorate the nation's first LGBTQ National Park Service Monument - Stonewall Inn (53 Christopher Street), where the riots first erupted that fateful night in Greenwich Village. Honoring the decades of activism that followed, while celebrating how far we've come since, here are a few highlights of NYC Pride Week 2016:

 

Family Movie Night

June 21st, 7:30pm

Hudson River Park

A night of classic Disney cinema under the stars (Toy Story), head to Pier 63 in Hudson River Park for this FREE family affair before a week of not-so-kid-friendly fun to follow.

 

Pride Kickoff Rally

June 24th, 7-9:30pm

Hudson River Park

Another FREE event for the whole family, join thousands of revelers on the waterfront as Pride Parade Weekend officially begins with live entertainment, celebrities, and destination food trucks.

 

Fantasy

June 24th, 10pm-5am

The Diamond Horseshoe

An all-night, adults-only NEON dance party, you'll want to dress in your best and brightest for this flashy flesh fest beneath Times Square.

 

VIP Rooftop Party

June 25th, 2-10pm

Hudson Terrace
