Shopping_Canal St.Market

Bohemian Gem of Fusion Foods and Artisanal Goods.

Dinnerware. Throw pillows. Sculpture art. Handcrafted chocolates. Handmade candles. Rice bowls. Ramen bowls. Decadent desserts. And, bubble tea.

All of these items (complete with a hint of indie charm) are available at one location, Canal Street Market, a high-end bohemian haven located between Chinatown and SoHo. (But don’t worry; they let nonbohemian muggles shop there too). The 12,000-square-foot space is smaller than Chelsea Market, but bigger than City Kitchen. And, unlike their competitors, Canal Street Market also offers a craft retail experience.

This one-stop shop is jam-packed with fusion foods and artisanal goods. Try a green tea-horchata mix bubble tea from Boba Guys, or a scoop of tasty Thai iced tea ice cream from Davey’s Ice Cream. There’s even a funky Korean joint, Oppa, serving traditional Korean eats in a burrito bowl or wrapped in a tortilla.

Although patrons have complained about the high prices, they also rave about the offerings. New York doesn’t come cheap. And, the quality of their offerings makes it totally worth the price. Oh, there’s even free Wi-Fi available throughout the space AND public restrooms (a godsend in New York City). Overall, it’s a great place to grab a bite (and maybe jewelry for the night’s outings). Just make sure to skip the high-influx lunch rush. Visit during dinner hours instead.

Pro tip: Order your food to-go. Most of the eating space is standing room only You’re better off enjoying your food in peace, at a nearby park or in your NoMo SoHo hotel suite (a four-minute walk away).
